A Music Conservatory for Ma’ale Adumim
Ma’ale Adumim, a city of over 42,000 near Jerusalem, is a cultural hub for communities further east. The George W. Schaeffer Music Conservatory, established by Bnai Zion Foundation in March 2013, enables “music of peace” to resonate throughout the region by educating children and adults of all musical talents and capabilities.
"Bringing first-rate music education to these children is nothing less than a Zionist act. None of these talented, wonderful children would have had any chance of even being exposed to it without the dedicated faculty and staff of the George Schaffer School of Music."— Benjamin Shapira, Cellist, educator, and conductor for the Ma’ale Adumim Youth Symphony
Ma’ale Adumim serves as an anchor for other communities further east, whose residents rely on its commercial center, library, and other cultural venues. The conservatory enables “music of peace” to resonate throughout the region by educating children and adults of all musical talents and capabilities. The George Schaeffer School of Music supports the award-winning Ma’ale Adumim Youth Symphony as they learn to play to the utmost of their ability. The conservatory also expands opportunities for the community to enjoy classical music at their many rehearsals and concerts.
Bnai Zion Foundation is a strong believer in the importance of education to building strong and vibrant communities. In 1995, Bnai Zion started raising funds for the Library of Peace, the city’s municipal library, which provides library services and educational programming to the city and the surrounding areas. The George Schaeffer Music Conservatory provides more local access to music education and with exposure to the arts. Located in downtown Ma’ale Adumim, the conservatory bolsters the vitality of a community that already serves as a cultural hub for its area.
The George Schaeffer Music Conservatory is home to the Ma’ale Adudmim Youth Symphony, and provides cutting-edge music education to the children of Ma’ale Adumim, regardless of their social, cultural, or economic background. Students are selected for the conservatory based on their talent and ability. They receive top-level music education, including weekly individual lessons, theory, chamber music, and more. A faculty of the country’s most renowned musicians, many of whom are section leaders of the Israeli Philharmonic and other top Israeli orchestras, administers the entire program. Today, the Ma’ale Adumim Youth Symphony is one of the leading youth symphonies in the State of Israel.
